Since 2003, RJ has used ethical standards for investments and sustainability as an integrated part of investment analyses and investment decisions in ongoing management of the Foundation's assets.

Ethical and sustainability requirements are specified in RJ’s investment policy. When investing, RJ is to consider the declarations and conventions adopted and signed by Sweden within human rights, labour law and environmental considerations.

As support in these efforts, the external consultancy Sustainalytics (previously GES) has been hired twice a year since 2006 to conduct an ethics screening of RJ’s shareholdings. At the end of 2020, RJ decided to expand this collaboration and include an additional service within active share ownership.

Since 2013, RJ has chosen not to invest in tobacco companies.
