The Early Lars Ahlin - Studies in Two Unpublished Novels

The aim of the project is to analyse the growth and development of Lars Ahlin's æsthetics and his theories of novel writing. Two unpublished novels, "Den lille Prometheus" (1936-1937) and "Underklassare av blodet" (1938-1939), provide the point of departure for the project. The project is designed to result in a study of these two novels and their importance as a foundation of material for the succeeding novels - from the first published book "Tåbb med Manifestet"(1943) to "Din livsfrukt" (1987). The project is the necessary condition for a planned annotated edition of the two novels. Lars Ahlin is a fundamental renewer of the Swedish novel and a social critic. His perspective is based upon a Lutheran view of Christianity and his reformist socialist convictions. The origins of these ideological bases are found in the early writings of Lars Ahlin. The aim of the project is to reconstruct the formative early years in Lars Ahlin's development.
