This project will create a user-friendly portal containing information about conflicts and peace initiatives throughout the world. It will, in a sense, function as an encyclopedia about war and peace. From a starter page covering all the countries in the world, the user will be able to easily access information about political violence and peace efforts in specific countries. This will both facilitate and generate new research. The portal will be created by the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University. As of 2004, UCDP provides an Internet-based database containing data on a wide range of aspects of armed conflict. This project will elevate the current database to a new level of accessibility, and broaden its scope even further. Aside from the information that is currently available in the database, UCDP possesses a range of other systematically compiled data. However, this is not as easily accessible. The portal will visualize these data and connect them to the current database. The project will result in an internationally unique resource with a width of information about different types of armed violence as well as peace efforts. The portal will play an important role, both policy-wise and in academia. For policy-makers, easy access to systematic and multi-facetted information about a country's security needs will be a decisive advantage. In academia, access to well-renowned data is a prerequisite for future achievement.
