Swedish periodicals from the 20th century – completion of the Nya Lundstedt bibliography of periodicals
Nya Lundstedt - tidskrifter is a bibliography in LIBRIS of the Swedish periodicals of the 20th century and is a part of the Swedish National Bibliography.
Between 2002 and 2008, work on the bibliography was financed by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond in two consecutive projects. In 2009 the bibliography was awarded The Big Prize of The Guild of Swedish Magazine Publishers (Tidskriftsakademins stora pris). However, a significant portion of the collection remained to be described. Since 2009, the National Library of Sweden has continued its work on the bibliography to some extent, and we have now described some 20,000 publications. In connection with the previous projects preliminary estimates were made, which showed that it could involve about 22,000 periodicals. New and safer calculations have now been made possible as the work has progressed further. It turns out that our treasure of periodicals is richer than we had first imagined and we now estimate the figure to 27,000 periodicals. At the current rate, it would take about another 10 years to complete the bibliography. Even though the work already accomplished is of high value, it is only when the bibliography is complete that the full value of it can be realized. Some important categories of periodicals still remain to be included. We know that a complete bibliography will be an invaluable source for anyone engaged in historical research, and we therefore propose a two-year project as a concentrated effort to complete it.
