The Late Bronze Age citadel of Midea - a stratigraphic analysis of works in the field 2000-2009
During 2025/26 I wish to write a stratigraphic synthesis of the results of the archaeological field project at Midea in the Agolid, which I led during 2000-2009 at the time when I was director at the Swedish Institute at Athens. So far, there are only preliminary reports from the field seasons and it is now time to write a comprehensive stratigraphical analysis. Midea is a habitations site with remains primarily from the Late Bronze Age. Swedish and Greek archaeologists have worked jointly in the field on Midea during several phases. The site was one of a number of fortified central places in the Mycenaean core area. It is important that the results become available for further study about economical, ideological and political aspects about the site. The nine years of field work generated a great deal of finds, which are stored at the Archaeological Museum of Nafplion. The processing of the material: classifying, dating och documentation has been going on some weeks every year since the start of the field work. Travel and lodging were financed by various foundations. The processing of the finds and the database work are expected to be concluded during 2024. It will therefore be possible to begin put together all data into a comprehensive report during 2025. I would like to conduct this work with the Swedish Institute as a base, in order to have the possibility to check the material at Nafplion where it is stored. In Athens are the necessary library facilities that is needed.
