SEK 355 million for the humanities and social sciences
Riksbankens Jubileumsfond has today decided to strengthen the humanities and social sciences with SEK 355 million. The funds go to research projects and infrastructure support.
A total of 70 applications are granted funds for research or to create infrastructure that can be used for humanities and social science research.
A large part of RJ's resources is spent on the assessment of the research applications, in order to continue to finance the applications that are of the highest scientific quality.
- Our review groups are designed to be able to assess applications from all subject areas within the humanities and social sciences. We attach the greatest importance to the peer review discussions that form the basis of the scientific assessment, says Marika Hedin, CEO of the Riksbanken Jubileumsfond.
The granted applications are distributed as follows:
- 37 RJ Project (research for up to three years)
- 21 RJ Sabbatical (researchers can complete long-term research for six to twelve months)
- 9 RJ Infrastructure for research (finances infrastructure for future research)
- 3 RJ Program (larger research group funded for six to eight years)
The three largest projects are awarded a total of SEK 137 million:
Jayne Svenungsson, Lund University, Center for Theology and Religious Studies
At the end of the world. A transdisciplinary exploration of apocalyptic notions past and present
Kerstin Lidén, Stockholm University, Archaeological Research Laboratory
Crisis, conflict and climate – social change in Scandinavia in the years 300–700
Rikard Eriksson, Umeå University, Department of Geography
The new country of the future? Driving forces, challenges and opportunities in relation to northern Sweden's (green) industrialization
Every year, RJ funds research in the humanities and social sciences with around half a billion kroner. Most of these are financed via researcher-initiated proposals in the annually recurring calls for proposals.
