2024/10/24

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. In this year's major round of research funding, RJ's board has decided to finance a total of 77 projects with a sum of over 370 million SEK.

To fund applications of the highest scientific quality, the foundation places great emphasis on evaluating research applications. Applications are assessed and prioritized in one or more of RJ’s review panels and by external experts. The review panels are designed to evaluate applications from all subject areas within the humanities and social sciences.

The approved research projects are distributed as follows:

  • 42 applications for RJ Projects (research for up to three years)
  • 4 applications for RJ Programs (larger research groups funded for six to eight years)
  • 27 applications for RJ Sabbatical (to complete research already at an advanced stage within six to twelve months)
  • 4 applications for RJ Flexit (collaboration between researchers and organizations in the private, public, and non-profit sectors)

The four largest projects are awarded a total of 165 million SEK:

  • Beata Megyesi, Stockholm University, Department of Linguistics
Echoes of History: Analysis and Decipherment of Historical Writings
  • Dag Avango, Luleå University of Technology, Department of Business, Technology, Culture, and Society, Division of Social Sciences
Conflict or Cooperation? – Learning from historical land use tensions in Arctic Sweden
  • Erik Grönqvist, Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences
Are cities creating or attracting healthy individuals? Causality and selection in urban health
  • Kajsa Yang Hansen, University of Gothenburg, Department of Education and Special Education
School Segregation in Sweden: Challenges, Opportunities, and Intervention (SIS)

Each year, RJ funds research and collaboration in the humanities and social sciences with approximately half a billion SEK. Between 1965 and 2023, the foundation has supported research with a total of 18.7 billion SEK.
